Our Corn is A-maize-ing

I know, so bad, but I just couldn't help myself.

We picked some of our corn this week.  We actually got quite a few ears, even if they were a wee bit on the small side.

Louis, contemplating a tomato.

Our corn, hot off the grill.  Hector said that eating it was a little like reenacting the baby corn scene from Big.

Go, Alice. Go!

Alice loves her tricycle. Go, Dog. Go! is Alice's favorite book right now, hence the title.

Hopefully she'll learn to pedal herself soon.

First Day of First Grade

Louis' first day of school was this week.  I can't believe that he's in first grade.  I've spent the past week breaking out into the chorus of "Sunrise, Sunset".
Lookin' good.

Goodbye Summer, It's Been Fun

During our unofficial last weekend of summer we went for a walk down by the river at sunset.  The weather was warm, and the kids couldn't resist wading in.  This summer has been great, but we can already feel fall creeping up on us.

Rainy Day Gardeners

A little rain isn't enough to keep my kids out of the garden.
Check out how big the corn got.
Louis and Alice love picking the green beans. One day they might actually eat one.

Inch by Inch, Row by Row

After a slow start, our garden had bit of a growth spurt.
The corn is as high as...well, Alice's eye.
Alice loves playing in the stalks.
She also loves the peas.
Here's Louis, harvesting some green beans.
Our bounty.

August Flora and Fauna

One of my favorite late summer flowers are the Japanese anemones.
They are also a favorite of the bees.

Louis' favorite is the black-eyed Susan.
